I was a fan of all three photographers and wanted a document of this important show. The book starts off with an essay about the show and how it came together followed by a few reviews.The images themselves are printed largely and beautifully. First Arbus then Friedlander and lastly Winogrand. Arbus's section to me is the strongest and has a good proportion of my favorite works by her. Winogrand' section has "World's Fair" but misses on some his great later works.The book ends on more details of the show. I'd highly recommend this book as an introduction to all three artist and important period in photography. The production, content and quality of the book are great.
You can’t read about art photography in America for very long before someone mentions the New Documents exhibition of 1967. Trouble is, there was no catalog printed, probably for budgetary reasons. For the 50th anniversary of the show, MoMA fixed that but good with this volume. Even if you know all the exhibition images you need this book, because it comes as close to recreating the experience of being at the show as anything short of time travel ever will. An absolute must for any serious collection.

A great addition to my library
A much needed reconsideration of a seminal exhibition. Extensively illustrated.
That's a much needed publication for a long time and it's good that it finally happened. It has a lot of first seen documents about the exhibition and some good current texts about it. And it's great to be able to see the original selection from all three photographers but, at least in my copy, many photographs are more dark than they should be (with almost no detail in the shadows). And that (the quality of the reprinted photographs) is something that I have noticed to be problematic (or at least not in the level that it should be) in other publications of MoMA too.
