I've been doing meditation on and off pretty much all my life, in one form or another. With so many different forms and types of meditation around, especially lately, I just wish this book, Meditation for Beginners, was around when I started!Disclaimer: I've not been paid for this review, or any other review, for that matter.Disclosure: I am multi-lingual and I was born in India, so I can recognize and also read a book written in English but by an Indian or similar person. So if your language skills don't carry you in this direction, do watch out - this book was written by a native English speaker, but of course, English comes in many different flavors around the globe - much like meditation! Just read the text as written and absorb the overall meaning, rather than getting trapped in the verbiage, and you'll get the gist just fine.The information itself is clean, complete and well-rounded. It's written as a guide to further study, for sure, but it pretty much covers (albeit briefly) everything from Origins and brief History to helpful tips to get ready for meditation, a useful pointer into an 8-minute routine, Binaural Beats, Guided Meditation and what that entails, Manta Meditation (the one that most people think is “meditationâ€, I believe, with a super useful – to me – overview of the pitfalls of Mantra Meditation) to Body Scan, Walking, Mindful and Zen Meditation, which were relatively new to me.So. Is this a complete book on all of these types of meditation, with fully described techniques throughout? No way. Is this a very brief overview into the various types of meditation available, and an insider's insight into the pros and cons of each type? You bet.The actual nuts and bolts of each distinctive type of meditation can be gotten from the Internet or from each individual type of practitioner, quite easily. The problem that I was having is that in each case, the particular practitioner, be that a meditation center, a teacher, an online course, an app, whatever, always seemed to represent that theirs was the only type of meditation. Which, of course, is not so.“Meditation for Beginners†has given me a quick insight as to almost all of the types of meditation there are out there, and how each one is similar to or differs from the others, and has allowed me to quickly absorb the overview information so my own personal meditative practice can be more effective, efficient and beneficial than it ever was before. So perhaps the book's title should have been “Meditation for not-so-Beginners†really, because I think that most people interested in this topic have at least heard of the various types of meditation mentioned in this review, but have wondered how it all fits together.Bottom line: as a book? Not that great. As a guide? Indispensable.
This ebook is poorly organized extremely cursory. The poor language though is so distracting as to disallow the reader to follow intent and meaning. This ebook absolutely can not have been edited. It is only amusing to speculate whether the author is not English speaking and had no skilled translator or is perhaps a pre-teen with many friends who will submit "5" reviews. I rarely write reviews and submit this one only in the hopes of saving some hapless reader my pains of this insulting draft.
First of I thought this book was going to guide me through a meditation practice the same lead me to believe it would but it doesn't. Plus after you get past the sample it's poorly written. Also it's very vague on the forms and types of mediation. Nothing in this book provides detailed steps for mediation. Considering I only paid a couple dollars for the book I'm not that upset but frankly I wouldn't give you .50 for this crap
I definitely need ways and methods for relieving stress and finding my inner calm, especially after a long work week. So I picked up this book on meditation, and as a complete novice, I think the strategies in this book will be very helpful. This is definitely a beginners guide, as it states in the title, and I will utilize the concepts in this book here on out.
Meditation is a very useful tool to utilize in our daily lives because of all the stress we may encounter. However, it can be very different to learn if you do not know where to start. This is a great guide for beginners with easy to understand instructions and methods to get your feet wet in the world of meditation. Definitely worth the read.
This guide was perfect to start me off with doing meditation. I always thought it was a bit silly, but was looking for a way to relieve my stress in a healthy way. It was a great read for me as a beginner.
