She led Harvard s Expository Writing Program for twenty years, directing the first-year writing program and establishing Harvard s WAC program. A two-time Braddock Award winner, Sommers is well known for her research and publications on student writing. As an adult going back to school after being out for over 10 years, this was a lifesaver! Great reference manual.
A Pocket Style Manual is a very well crafted piece of literature about how to write... well, literature. The books comes with a a sturdy spiral-binding if you purchase that option. The book is taller and wider than I would have expect for a book called "A Pocket Style..." However, the book is very well crafted. It is written in an understandable and easy-to-follow manner. The table of contents is fantastic as are the appendices and indexes. I have also purchased an online version of this book from another provider, as I have felt that this book's instructions are very adequate and without question an authority on the matter of proper format and grammar in English. It indeed comes with instrucitons for proper APA, MLA, Chicago and CSE formats.I would recommend this book, but I would also like to see the pages get thicker and the book's height and width get smaller.
I highly recommend this manual to all the college and university students. I used it successfully as a reference manual for one of my research writing classes.This book is a cornerstone for all my writing classes.
Fast shipping, came sooner to my house then the book was actually available at my school which was awesome. Very helpful for writing papers! Would recommend to any student. I provided pictures of the brief contexts. throughout the book there is also great examples that are always helpful!
One of my favorite writing references. It has MLA, APA, Chicago, and some science citation method (I'm not a science person...). I had the 5th edition through high school, and bought this new 7th edition for college. It has a great quick grammar reference, tips for clarity, and great guides for citations. A must-have for anyone writing papers.
It is harder for me to decipher the italics, but overall this is a great resource!
This was the wrong edition for my class however it still was mostly accurate in many cases.
