I bought this for my college age son to use to replace the timing belt, valves, water pump, etc. It had the information he needed. His only complaint is that if you follow all the instructions you will dismantle more than absolutely necessary. The guide wants the steps to be as easy as possible and will have you remove parts to provide better access to the part you need to work with. Nonetheless, this book, combined with a few hours of watching youtube videos allowed him to complete the project with zero prior automotive repair experience. And it saved us likely about $1700 in labor compared to what the repair shops wanted to do the same work.
Not happy. Should have read more of the negative reviews. Bought this to troubleshoot the A/C and radiator fan on a 2007 Beetle with the 2.5 5cyl engine. Just the basic task of troubleshooting the radiator fan alone didn’t match what’s in the book. This engine has the single fan hardwired with the controller built into the assembly. What is cover is the two-fan version only. Pictures don’t match. Wiring diagram doesn’t match, etc. etc.Pretty much useless. Waste of money. Still giving two stars hoping that one day I’ll be able to find something of use for the common parts.
I know nothing about cars and still don't but thanks to this manual I at least know how to change the headlight bulbs. Lol! These manuals are a must have for any one who plans on working on their own vehicle or getting their friend or significant other to work on their vehicle.
This Haynes Repair Manual for 1998-2010 VW New Beetles has most of the information I need to perform maintenance and repairs on my Beetle of this era. It covers various models and options. I was unable to find certain information such as lubrication specifications for the engine, transmission, power steering, and brakes. Also, I didn't find wheel torque and spark plug specs. However, I am satisfied with this purchase and would not hesitate to recommend it based on its content and price. I've used it several times with success.
This manual indicates that it covers all New Beetles from 1998 thru 2010, but it does not. There apparently have been a number of variations during that time period, and this manual has overlooked some of them. Probably is ok for the vehicles it includes.
If you are going to own a VW New Beetle you should definitely pick one of these up. You're gonna need it! I use mine monthly. I've had my car for a year and half and though I look awesome when it runs, you will need this book to keep it running. Trust me. BUY THIS BOOK or another car.
Fairly descriptive, but realize I need a more in depth manual.
Lots of information, even troubleshooting, must have if you want to work on your car yourself!
